How Often Should You Change Your Oil?

Oil change intervals depend on your vehicle, the oil type it uses, and how you drive. The best guide is your owner's manual and the condition of the oil — not a one-size-fits-all number.

What the manual says

Your owner's manual lists the recommended interval for normal and severe service. Severe service — short trips, heavy traffic, towing, or extreme temperatures — shortens the interval.

Oil type matters

Conventional and synthetic oils have different service lives. Synthetic oil generally lasts longer, but the interval still depends on the manufacturer's recommendation for your engine.
