Signs of a Failing A/C Compressor

The A/C compressor pressurizes the refrigerant that cools your car. When it isn't working, the whole system stops cooling. Here are the common signs.

Warm air and no engagement

If the A/C blows warm and the compressor clutch doesn't engage when you turn the A/C on, the compressor or its control circuit may be the issue. An inspection can tell the difference.

Unusual noises

A grinding, rattling, or squealing sound when the A/C is on can indicate internal compressor damage. Continuing to run a failing compressor can send debris through the system.

Get it inspected

A/C symptoms overlap, and the compressor isn't always the cause. We inspect the A/C system — compressor, condenser, evaporator, and expansion valve — before recommending any repair.
